As a producer, working with clients is essential in the job, this time around, I worked with artist "Y0shy" on a track named "Elevated" a trap genre production inspired by timbalands improvisational production style, using only synthesizers, drum machines and Ableton.

Planning

After getting in contact with Y0shy, it was first time to plan, meeting up with him to discuss what the plan for the song is, genre, BPM, Equipment used and date of project. before I would write it all down to make sure I knew exactly what to use.

Legalities

Once all the planning was set in stone, me and him created a contract containing all the conditions of the project, what i would provide for him, and what he would provide for me in return, here is this document.

We each signed it and kept a copy to make sure we both had a contract and it could not be edited. setting the recording fully into motion.

Setup

I setup the room for recording the day before the actual recording date, that way when he entered the studio, all the equipment would already be functioning and setup. Here is a timelapse of me setting up the room.

Recording

The Recording consisted of mainly improvisational practices, following the soft guidelines made by timbaland, working with the artist to make the song as it goes was the key. making sure to use percussive sounds in the drums, such as snaps and clicks, and using vocal chops as an instrument. we worked together to create a vibrant track from the ground up, working off of eachother when bouncing off ideas in terms of what kind of sound we wanna use, and how to implement it. I suggest the sound and he takes that sound and implements it where he feels it would work.

Mixing

Mixing was a simple task, with synthesizers, the noise you already want is typically what comes out of the synthesizer anyway, using mild adjustments like some soft reverb on the regular beat, and some heavier reverb on the bridge for a more spacious feeling, a drum buss to make the drums feel more alive and not muddied together, of course EQ, although to goal for this EQ was typically to cut off frequencies to create a more unique sound and a technique timbaland typically uses, the sidechained compressor on the bass.
